OUR CHRISTMAS SHARING PROGRAM is underway. Counselors at elementary schools have identified children in need and their families. Wish lists from them are being returned so coordinators Bob and Gudrun Grimes can put those items on
tag ornaments for our tree which goes up November 1. We also help with gifts for the clients of the Friendship Club for challenged adults. The tree will be set up in the church vestibule until
November 9. You are invited to help someone less fortunate have a brighter holiday by taking an ornament and purchasing one or more of the suggested items. Wrap the gift with the
ornament securely attached (the only means of identification) and return it no later than November 23. Additionally the committee is seeking new blankets and wrapped candy for the children. Look for containers in the vestibule.
Every year there is a problem with ornaments that are taken but no gifts returned or gifts that are returned past the due date. Please help us help them by honoring your commitment on time. Thank you for your generous giving!

HOLIDAY BAZAAR:

The holidays are just around the corner and so is our annual St. Francis holiday Bazaar on Saturday, November 22. Assisi Hall will be transformed into a marketplace with all sorts of delights to make the season festive! So the Bazaar Committee is asking bakers to check all their recipes and crafters to come up with some great creations for sale. Look around your house for holiday tins and put together theme baskets to donate.! Help support the church as you have a fun time! All proceeds will benefit St. Francis Parish in some way. Just this summer, the Committee donated two new vacuum cleaners to the Franciscan Church Mice volunteers to make their task of cleaning the church on the weekdays much easier.

HAITI NOTES:
Link to current news on Haiti and Hurricane Ike
Thank you to everyone who gave generous
donations to our brothers and sisters in LaGonave as they try to recover from the disastrous effects of Hurricane Ike. Our ministry group here is still collecting donations as the need continues to be great. To send a donation, make a check to “Haiti Outreach Foundation” and send it to the parish office or put it in the collection basket in a plain envelope clearly marked “Haiti Relief.”

A new school year at our twin parish on LaGonave will start soon and will welcome 25 new kindergartners to Our Lady of Pointe-a-Raquette Catholic School. Sponsoring one of them assures that your special student will receive instruction and a good food for only $20 a month. If you need more information, please contact Colette Petitt at 255-1693 or Linda Kofeldt at 885-7763. You can make a huge difference in a child’s life.
